SIA
Licensing and Competency Testing of
Investigators in the Private Sector
Subject to
the exclusions set out in the Private Security Industry
Act 2001, licensing may become mandatory for those who
undertake surveillance and carry out investigations in
the private sector in April 2010. The Home Office announced in May 2008, that
the industry stakeholders expressed the wish that
licensing by The Security Industry Authority (SIA)
should
include a written test of competency.
In anticipation of this development, Robertson &
Co recruited recently retired, professionally qualified
trainers, from the Police Service to write a training
course for our own staff. These SIA Licensing for
Private Investigators training courses are also
available to investigators outside Robertson & Co. The
courses will enable experienced, private investigators
and those who are new to the industry to satisfy such SIA
Licensing competency criteria that are applied, through the award of a
nationally recognised, BTEC level 3 qualification (A
Level standard) in Investigations, awarded by a leading
provider of internationally recognised academic and
vocational qualifications.
The main course focuses in the following five core
competencies:
How to:
o Conduct
investigations
o Conduct
Interviews
o Search for
information & preserve evidence
o Conduct
surveillance
o Understand
and work to relevant Laws & standards.
For experienced investigators, training, with the option
to be delivered either face to face or online, can be
provided in one or more of these five modules. In
addition, for the most experienced investigators, a
refresher training module will also be available for
both the initial and renewal SIA Private Investigator
licensing applications. Robertson & Co can also provide
a direct route to SIA competency assessment if required.
We believe that our SIA Private Investigator Licence
Competency Training Courses will be unique in that as
they were designed for our own staff, we will be able to
offer them at a rate significantly below that offered by
our competitors. Additionally, our trainers are not just
“Sector Competent,” they have decades of front line,
practical experience behind them enable them to offer
our students those little stories and practical
examples, borne out of personal experience, so essential
to illustrate and deliver real meaning to the theory
they will be taught.
Beyond Licensing:
After the initial tranche of training for SIA Private
Investigator Competency Testing for licensing has been
concluded, Robertson & Co intend to continue working
with the awarding body and a Higher Education
Institution to grow the breadth and complexity of the
licensing qualification, along the BTEC pathway, leading
to the award of a BTEC Foundation Degree in
Investigations.
Specialist qualifications in Undercover Operations,
Surveillance, Insurance Investigations and Fraud
Investigations are also envisaged.
We invite anyone who is interested in discussing our
programme of Training for a Nationally Recognised
Qualification in Private Investigations to contact
Gavin Robertson or Andy Cook. |
